Sanrio Cafe Ikebukuro in Tokyo: Worth a Visit for Cute Vibes and Photos?

If you love Sanrio characters and themed cafes, the Sanrio Cafe in Ikebukuro is a must-visit—especially if you're already planning to explore Sunshine City. I stopped by with a friend on a weekday afternoon and we were lucky—no line! But keep in mind: according to Google reviews, wait times can get long on weekends or holidays. Plan ahead if you don’t want to waste time standing around.

🎀 Atmosphere & Decor

The whole place is an overload of cuteness—walls, tables, displays—everything is decorated with Sanrio charm. Whether you're a fan of Hello Kitty, Kuromi, or My Melody, this cafe is a photo spot dream. Even if you’re not a huge Sanrio fan, the themed decor makes for a fun and Instagrammable stop.

🧁 Food & Drinks: It’s About the Look, Not the Taste

To be honest, if you’re visiting for the food, don’t expect too much. Theme cafes are more about the experience than gourmet-level eats.

Here’s what I ordered:

  • Smoothie: Surprisingly good! It came with colorful toppings that stained our tongues like candy. 😅
  • Kuromi Roll Cake: A bit dry, but adorable—definitely a 10/10 for looks.

📍 Is It Worth Going?

If you're already heading to Sunshine City Ikebukuro, the Sanrio Cafe is worth a stop—especially for the photos. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way just for the cafe, but I’d definitely return if I’m in the area again to try other menu items.

📝 Final Rating: 7/10

  • Great for Sanrio fans and photo ops
  • Decor is 100% on-theme and fun
  • Food is okay—cute, but not amazing
  • Worth it if you’re already in the area
